Fatal Vehicle Accident On The Dan Ryan Expressway

There was a fatal vehicle accident on the Dan Ryan Expressway this afternoon (November 1, 2013) involving a semi truck and car.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP) the accident happened at approximately 2:00 p.m., in the northbound lanes of Interstate 94 (I-94) at 91st Street.

The accident happened when a car hit the front of a semi dump truck that was traveling in the right lane. The truck then hit the right concrete wall on the Dan Ryan’s shoulder, causing the truck’s driver to be ejected from the truck. Then, the truck crossed all of the Dan Ryan’s lanes and hit the concrete wall of the left expressway median.

The driver of the truck died at the accident scene. He was identified as Alfred Valladares, 56, of Chicago.

All inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed until approximately 6:30 p.m.

Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the November 2, 2013 Chicago Tribune article titled “Fatal traffic crash on Dan Ryan” as well as the November 1 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Dan Ryan reopens after fatal crash.”
