Lawsuit Filed Over CTA Train Collision

There has been a lawsuit filed over the Chicago CTA “ghost train” (i.e. unmanned train) collision that happened Monday (September 30, 2013) in Forest Park, Illinois.

An excerpt from the NBC Chicago article of October 3, 2013 titled “Lawsuit Filed After CTA Crash” :

The lawsuit was filed by Kim Quatch, who’s seeking at least $50,000 in damages. She was a passenger who was hurt on a Blue Line train that was rammed by an empty, unmanned train Monday in the Chicago suburb of Forest Park.

Additional details regarding the CTA train collision, stemming from the NTSB investigation into the issue, are seen in the October 4, 2013 Chicago Tribune article titled “NTSB: Blue Line ‘ghost train’ was left in yard with power on.”

Two excerpts from that article:

The crash involving the “ghost train” — as some CTA rail employees dubbed it – caused minor injuries to more than 30 riders Monday morning.

also:

In the emergency recommendations, the NTSB disclosed that the four-car train traveled almost 1 mile downhill through five mechanical train stop mechanisms before reaching the Harlem station, where it struck the standing eight-car train.

Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the NBC Chicago and Chicago Tribune articles mentioned above.
