There was a fatal vehicle accident involving a Pontiac Police Officer and another driver Wednesday night (October 30, 2013) on Interstate 55 (I-55) in Pontiac, Illinois.
The accident occurred as a Pontiac Police Officer, with his K-9 unit dog, were stopped in a median turn-around area north of Route 23. While stopped, the police car was struck by another car that was heading northbound.
The Pontiac Police Officer killed in the accident has been identified as Casey J. Kohlmeier, 29.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was taken to a local hospital.
