Three teenagers were killed after the car they were in collided with a semi truck in Kendall County near Oswego, Illinois. The accident happened at approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday along Route 126 and Schlapp Road.
Illinois State Police say that it appears the driver of the car, Brian Herrera, 19, of Plainfield, pulled out in front of the semi.
The truck collided with the car, and the car ended up underneath the truck.
Jason Shrake, an Illinois State Police Trooper, was quoted in the June 5 Chicago Tribune article titled “Crash kills 3 teens: ‘Bad split-second decision’” as saying:
“They pulled in front of the semi, it was a bad split-second decision,” said Shrake. “Everything points to the driver of the car causing the accident.”
Herrera, as well as two passengers in the car – Alexis Banuelos, 18, and Tyler Montgomery, 19 – all died. Herrera and Montgomery were pronounced dead at the scene, whereas Banuelos was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
