Man Killed After Stripping And Walking Onto Tri-State Tollway

A fatal accident occurred Sunday afternoon on the Tri-State Tollway.

Witnesses told Illinois State Police that a 34-year-old motorist, said to be from Robbins, was speeding down the toll road in his car, a black GMC pickup truck, when he rear-ended another vehicle. He then hit a guard rail before he came to a stop.

Then, according to authorities, the man got out of his truck, took off all of his clothing, and then walked out onto the freeway, where he was then fatally struck by a van.

The collision was reported around 5:54 p.m. on the northbound I294 at mile marker 16 near Worth.

Authorities have no idea as to why the man acted as he did. Investigators were awaiting autopsy results to learn whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role.

According to the Illinois State Police, three people were taken to an area hospital because of the rear-end collision.
