12-Year-Old Boy Injured During Sycamore Bicycle Accident

Bicycle accidents often result in serious – if not fatal – accident injuries.   On this site, various medical and legal issues regarding bicycle accidents are discussed on the “Chicago Bicycle Accidents” and “Chicago Bicycle Accident Injuries” pages.  Additionally, various bicycle accidents that have happened in the Chicago area as well as some throughout Illinois are summarized in posts found under the “Bicycling Accidents” category.

As discussed in those sources, there are a broad range of accident injuries that can result when a bicyclist is struck by a vehicle.  Depending upon the type and severity of the accident injuries, recovery from these injuries can take a considerable amount of time and medical care, and may include one or more surgeries and/or significant amounts of rehabilitation.

A recent accident in Sycamore involved a boy who was struck by a pickup truck while he was riding his bicycle.   The accident is discussed in a variety of media sources, including the September 19, 2017 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “12-year-old boy hit by pickup truck in Sycamore” as well as the September 19 Daily Chronicle article titled “Pickup truck strikes, seriously injures 12-year-old bicyclist in Sycamore.”

The accident involved a pickup struck striking the boy as he was riding Monday night (September 18, 2017) at the intersection of Airport Road and Quigley Road.  The collision occurred at 7:17 p.m.

The boy was taken to a hospital, then flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital with what the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office called “serious facial injuries.”

An excerpt from the Daily Chronicle article mentioned above:

Logan C. Way, 21, of the 300 block of Old State Road, was driving the pickup that hit the boy on the east side of Airport Road and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper lane use, the release said.

Additional details can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
