A woman died early this morning in a single-vehicle accident on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290.)

Tynita Bennett, 40, of Maywood, was traveling inbound when her SUV struck both the left and right walls on the inbound I-290 at South Racine Avenue at approximately 3:10 a.m. The SUV then rolled over several times, and during the accident, Bennett was ejected from the vehicle. The medical examiner's office declared her dead at 3:50 a.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital.

A terrible car accident in Chicago's Austin community (West Side) claimed the lives of four women Saturday night.

The car in which the four were traveling hit a beam supporting the Green Line elevated track in the 4800 block of W. Lake Street.

The accident happened at approximately 11:55 p.m.

Three of the four women in the car died at the accident scene. The fourth woman, Ieshia Nelson, 21, of Chicago, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and shortly thereafter pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The article lists the 20 "most dangerous intersections" as defined by the number of accidents in 2010, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation, for the six county area.

The article also discusses various aspects of these dangerous intersections.

This morning, three people were injured during a car accident on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive (LSD) as the car they were in went over a guard rail. The accident happened shortly before 6 a.m., according to Chicago Police.

It is unclear as to what caused the car to leave the roadway and transcend the guardrail.

According to news reports, Curtis Sanders, 24, of Hammond, Indiana was driving the car, a Buick, that was involved in the accident. After going over the guardrail, the car hit a light pole.

This morning, two people were rescued from a burning car on Chicago's Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). The car had caught fire after it went through a fence and crashed into a tree.

The early morning accident occurred around 6:40 a.m., on the outbound Eisenhower between Central and Austin.

According to the Illinois State Police, a 29-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle for an unknown reason, left the roadway, and went down an embankment, at which point she went through the fence and hit the tree.

A man was killed after a car accident on Chicago's Stevenson Expressway (Interstate 55) in the Bridgeport neighborhood on Sunday.

Details on the accident appear limited.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Jason Dye, 25, of Justice, Illinois, was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m. Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Early this morning, a fatal car accident occurred on Chicago's South Side in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

According to authorities, the accident happened around 3:30 a.m. and involved a single pickup truck in the 400 block of East Pershing Road.

The driver, aged 42, was apparently speeding east on Pershing when he crashed into a light pole. The resulting impact then threw the truck into another light pole. The pickup truck was demolished, as seen in photos of the accident scene.

Early Monday morning a car accident involving two vehicles in New Lenox Township, Illinois left two men dead and seriously injured three others.

The accident happened before 3:00 a.m., at which time two vehicles crashed through a fence just east of Schoolhouse Road and hit a pipeline near Moni Road, causing an explosion.

According to New Lenox Mayor Tim Balderman, a police officer was able to get three men away from the burning cars; however, two other men were in vehicles engulfed by flames.

According to a March 5 Chicago Tribune article, titled "Cops: Two cars in fiery pipeline crash were drag-racing" indicates that:

"The survivors of the crash told police they were "racing one another" and "driving at a high rate of speed," a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said.

A street race along the Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) ended in a serious car accident Saturday night.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:36 p.m. in Berkeley, a western suburb of Chicago.

According to the Illinois State Police, three vehicles were racing in the inbound lanes of I290 when one vehicle lost control and struck a concrete barrier on the median just south of St. Charles Road.

Two people died and four other people were injured during a 6-vehicle accident on Chicago's Dan Ryan Expressway Thursday night.

The accident happened at roughly 11:15 p.m. on the Dan Ryan Expressway at 47th Street in the outbound local lanes, according to the Illinois State Police. The accident involved two semi trucks, a bus carrying nine passengers, two cars, and a minivan.

There was another accident caused by a wrong-way driver early this morning; this accident happened on Chicago's Kennedy Expressway.

According to the Illinois State Police, Vanessa M. Castillo, 25, of Chicago, got onto the Kennedy Expressway at Armitage and headed inbound in the outbound lanes. After hitting a semi truck as well as a black Mazda, she crashed head-on into a black Nissan Maxima at about 4:20 a.m. near Division Street. Castillo was driving a silver Chrysler Sebring.

ABC7 News, in an article today (February 11, 2012) titled "Wrong-way driver crash is sixth in month" tells of another "wrong-way" car accident in the Chicago area, this one on the Eisenhower Expressway near Austin.

It was Scott Davis's worst nightmare. A van was speeding the wrong way toward him as he traveled to work Saturday morning on the inbound Eisenhower near Austin. "I just said oh my God and I just turned my car," Davis said. "I thank God that I'm still alive right now."

A man has been killed and a Illinois State Police officer injured in a fatal car accident on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) early this morning.

The Illinois State trooper had stopped to assist a man with a non-injury traffic accident on eastbound I-290 near Mill Road. The trooper used his car and lights to block the left lane in which the disabled car sat.

While waiting for a tow truck to arrive, the man sat in the back of the Illinois State Police car. At approximately 1:20 a.m., a car rear-ended the squad car.

The man killed has not yet been identified; however, he is said to be 42 years old and from Brookfield. He died after being taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

According to officials, the Illinois State Police trooper was also injured, and taken to Loyola University Medical Center with a possible concussion. He is said to be in his 20s.
